Make it stand out.

Our aim is to transform the entire user experience from start to finish by creating a streamlined platform that enables all parties of the process to communicate, submit, and visualize their goals and plans for the future.

Role & Responsibilities

UI/ UX Designer. Conducting interviews, and digital wireframing, low and high fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility and iterating on designs.

Transizion is an organization that provides college prep as well as mentorship to students. They are currently working on several platforms in order to perform various tasks and collect information from mentors, parents, and students.

Design Process

From understanding the problem to research and interviews, a draft was created for user flow to create the wireframes. Then the design system was created to develop the prototype and final product.

Problem

Transizion’s students are currently working on several platforms in order to perform various tasks and communicating with mentors. It’s up to us to design a single platform that is easy to navigate and complete tasks for every student.

Solution

Our aim is to transform the entire user experience from start to finish by creating a streamlined platform that enables students to organize, communicate, submit, and visualize their goals and plans for the future.

Our Goal

The main project goal is to give users (Students) an integrated platform, which is easy to create and submit tasks, navigate, and able to communicate with their mentors.

Target Audience

  • High School Students (Sophomore to Junior year ideally)

  • Anyone in need of assistance with the college application process regardless of their socioeconomic background.

User Interviews

To complete the project, we conducted interviews with users to discover problems, experiences, and needs that the user faces from the beginning to the end.
After the first round of interviews, we realized something was wrong. All four students provided/ picked by the client were too similar. Therefore, our team decided to recruit random high schoolers from our immediate circles for the second round of interviews. And the result are more diverse.

User Pain Points

After all the interviews, we learned a lot about user problems and found that most users have similar behaviors and pain points. Organizing everything helped us to narrow down the pain points, allowing us to create list of features that can help users.

Personas

Creating personas helped us to understand who the platform user is, what their goals and frustrations were, and for what purpose they will use the product. The results should be believable people with their own experience and values.

Insights

After conducting interviews, compiling user personas, defining all the needs for the users, and analyzing the responses, we developed insights that helped us to determine what features should be in this platform.

Platform Map

After collecting all the data and information from user research, we’re able to create the platform map to the visualize the registration process, the entire page structure, and every available task/action for the users.During the process we evaluated each page/ area of the platform and applied our learnings from user research to simplify the app navigation, and make is as easy as possible for user to find the most essential features.

Wireframes

By creating the user flow, it helped us deliver a great product experience. We made seven of wireframes to layout content and functionality on the page which takes into the student user needs and their journey.

Final Design- Dashboard

Dashboard is the very first page seen after the user login for this platform. We wanted the dashboard to be able to provide some quick reviews for the user(student), so they will have an idea of what is coming next (calendar);
progress of applying for school (progress); and what task is due soon (to-do).

Final Design- To do

To-do page helps organize and prioritize tasks through the whole college application process. We wanted the design to be simple and user friendly, while presenting important information.

Final Design- Academic

The Academic page lets the user(student) update their academic documents at the same time, while communicating with their mentor if needed.

Style Guide

Visual style is an essential part of a project as it helps to create a standardized system of colors, fonts, buttons, text input, and many other components that will be combined and displayed on user screens.
